So What?
These activities give SARH a chance to talk to customers and find out more about the day to day issues that may be concerning them or they may like to be involved in helping change. It allows SARH and our partners the opportunity to engage with customers in their own communities on their own terms whilst having some fun in the sun!
More for your Money:
Speaking to customers and gauging opinion about services received or gaps in service delivery enables SARH and partners the opportunity to target services at customer priorities.

Glebelands Troops Annual Water Fight

The Glebelands Troops prepare to be soaked!
On Monday 14th July the Stafford and Rural Homes Community Involvement Team held the 4th annual Glebelands Troops Youth Group water fight!  It was held, as always, on the playing field near to the Glebelands Meeting Room where the Troops get together monthly.   The water fight marks the start of the summer break for the group before getting together again on the first Monday in September.

The photographs speak louder than words and you can see we had a really fun and soggy time!

If you want to know more please contact the Community Involvement Team on 0800 111 4554 or email cp@sarh.co.uk.

So What?
Glebelands Youth Group provides a useful diversionary activity for local young people, at the same time providing SARH with a platform to speak to young people about their concerns and aspirations and neighbourhood improvements they would like to see.
More for your Money:
Investing time into a low cost activity prevents higher costs being incurred if young people were involved in less positive activities. It also provides a free consultation opportunity with customers of the future and provides a unique perspective to engage..

Launch of the Interact Arts Project DVD  - Behind Closed Doors
The 'Behind Closed Doors' Team
After weeks of preparation we are happy to announce that the Interact Arts DVD was launched at the Stafford and Rural Homes Alliance meeting on Monday 7th July.  If you have been following this project in previous Blogs you will know that the volunteers chose 2 topics that were close to their hearts; these were Safety in the Home and Isolation.  With the guidance of Frank Conlan the project leader and Creative Director for Interact Arts C.I.C, they worked on the story boards as well as acting in the film.  The DVD is called ‘Behind Closed Doors’, it is 17 minutes long and delivers a very powerful and important message.  It will be used by some of the volunteers in the group to deliver workshops for their peers to make sure that the message reaches a wider audience.

So What?
A great piece of intergenerational work with a solid outcome – a film that raises awareness of Health and Safety issues and illness related to loneliness and isolation. It has enabled new friendships to be formed and customer groups to be more aware of issues in their own homes and communities.
More for your Money:
Working in partnership with Interact Arts has meant low cost working with an outcome that will continue to be of value for months and years to come.

An Introduction to Social Networking

On Wednesday 16 July we held an Introduction to Social Networking course as part of our Community Learning Programme at the Holmcroft Youth and Community Centre.

Tim Keeling from the Adult and Community Learning department at Staffordshire County Council led the session for 6 customers who were shown a range of social networking sites and how to use them. They went through the registration and signing in process and were shown how to navigate the Twitter and Facebook sites including how to ‘Tweet’ and update statuses and how to tag people. Customers were also given advice on what things they should and shouldn’t be tweeting and were told stories of people being arrested or even imprisoned for inappropriate posts. We also spent some time comparing different social networking sites so customers could decide for themselves which site would be more suitable for them to use.

We received excellent feedback from all customers. Thank you Tim for running the course and we look forward to the next.

If you want to know more please contact the Community Involvement Team on 0800 111 4554 or email cp@sarh.co.uk.

So What?
By running courses like these we are enabling customers to learn about sites on the internet which they could
use to keep in touch with family and friends…for free!  Some customers will feel the benefit of using social media by reducing feeling of isolation or loneliness.
More for your Money:
Customers no longer need to spend money making phone calls to family and friends. So long as they have an internet connection they can register onto a social networking site and keep in touch with loved ones for free. For customers who don’t have the internet there is always the option of attending a local library and using the computers they offer.   General IT skills will enable people to find lower cost products and services as well as enhance their employment prospects.

Unity Fest 2014

On Saturday 26 July the annual Unity Fest was held at Stafford Rugby Club with the aim to promote unity in the community.  The event gave Stafford and Rural Homes (SARH) a fantastic opportunity to engage with the community and promote the work of SARH.  Many partner organisations such as Staffordshire Fire Service, Healthwatch and VAST also attended on the afternoon.  There was also lots of fun in the sun for all ages including live music, bouncy castles and a wide selection of foods from around the world.

If you want to know more please contact the Community Involvement Team on 0800 111 4554 or email cp@sarh.co.uk.

So What?
Events such as Unity Fest allow SARH to engage with a variety of people from different communities and gauge opinions and exchanges ideas and thoughts about service delivery. It was also a great promotional activity with a number of customers signing up to CLP courses.
More for your Money:
Over 1,000 people attended the event and this provided an excellent promotional activity for SARH to convey the core work it undertakes and answer customer questions and queries.
