So what?
The project allows individuals to work with local people who have been in the same situation  to improve their job searching skills and identify individual skills and match them to real local jobs. This 1-1 approach at venues local to the participant and work buddy helps form a relationship with the work buddy and empowers individuals to continue to search in their own time accessing free computer and wifi locally.

Fun Fridays

The FREE Fun Fridays were a huge success at Barnes Road on Highfields, Woodlands Road, North End and Wedgwood Lane at Barlaston.
Sadly we had to cancel the Heenan Grove event at Moss Pit due to the heavy rain and apologise to anyone who was disappointed by this.
Thanks to extra funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner we were able, with the support of Stafford Borough Council, to have extra attractions like the Youth Bus, funding for Stafford Radio to attend as well as the Bike Bus.
We had sumo suits, gladiator pit and bouncy castle which proved to be a big hit with the children.  As was Pottermus who made a guest appearance on all the Fridays to join in the fun; we have the photographs to prove it!

Just to name a few things our resident Fairy Lisa was busy with face painting, the balloon modeller always had a queue, the football skills training was busy  as well as the coconut shy, there was lots to do and plenty to see or get involved with thanks to the partners like the Fire Service, Age UK, Woman’s Aid, Severn Trent, VAST, One Recovery and Severn Trent who were amongst the partners who attended.

So What?  Fun Fridays give our tenants and local communities access to a wide range of local services whilst having a free family fun day out.

More for your money Fun Fridays provide the perfect platform for our partners to engage with customers and communities in their neighbourhoods.

Asda Shopping Tours

The Feel Good Food project is hosting a series of events to help educate people about the importance of a healthy diet.  The 24th September will be the first opportunity to attend the fortnightly shopping tours held in Asda supermarket, Stafford. The tours take place from 10am until 11.30am are a great way for individuals and families to look around the store in a different way. The tour looks at how to get the most for your money and how to use those offers and 3 for 2’s to your advantage without waste. Shopping tours are a great way to improve eating habits and also to save money!!

Triple Job Success at Job Club

Within the space of a few weeks three attendees to job club found employment with the help and support of volunteers and staff.

Brian Jones, CS Construction
Brian was an active member of the job club; he was always full of tips and advice for other attendees helping them in their search for employment.   Whether it was websites he had visited, local companies he had seen advertising for staff or opportunities he had come across on his own search.
Alison Poole SARH
Josh Bentley, Apprenticeship Staffordshire County Council
Josh had recently finished college and although he was a whiz with the computer he wanted some support to really sell himself on his CV.  Within a couple of sessions everything was up to scratch and ready for his search for the first step onto the career ladder.  Josh only attended Job club twice before he was offered a position at Staffordshire County Council as an apprentice.

Janet Blount, Co Op Eccleshall
Janet had not been unemployed before having served 15 years in her previous role in the care industry.  Suddenly she found herself in the job market without the IT skills and confidence to search online and apply for jobs.  With the fear of Sanction Janet attended the job club.  The first thing was to understand the computer and online searches.  Through exploring what was out there Janet decided she fancied a change in career and started looking at different roles and opened up her search to other possibilities.   Although initially she did not feel confident enough to search outside of job club she was committed to handing out her CV, ringing round and, going into shops and trying to find employment opportunities close to home.  Janet said

‘This is the highlight of my day, its time for me.  You are kind and caring and have patience to help me.  You don’t make me feel stupid’

When Janet got her new job she was over the moon and came back to the club with a card and chocolates for all the volunteers and staff who helped her. Saying she couldn't have done it without us.

If you would like help and support job searching, whether its Improving your IT skills, getting set up on Universal Job Match, writing a CV, job applications or preparing for interview the team of volunteers and staff at the Job club can help.

On Saturday 15 August plot holders organised and held an open day allowing the wider community to enjoy the open space, take part in competitions and take home some of the fresh allotment produce grown on site. There was plenty of delicious food to be enjoyed and the children had lots of fun challenging each other on the coconut shy, making scarecrows and having their face painted.
